Diffuse V-Groove
The challenge
Decode the pattern,
despite inter-reflections.
Light bouncing between the groove’s surfaces can make an indirectly lit point brighter than a directly lit point. Low-frequency patterns can therefore be decoded incorrectly. High-frequency logical codes avoid these errors.
01 / Results
When indirect light reverses the expected signal
In this low-frequency example, the marked point is brighter under the inverse pattern, when it is not directly lit, than under direct illumination. This produces a binarization error.
02 / Results
High-frequency patterns decode correctly
High-frequency patterns are binarized correctly in the presence of inter-reflections in this example. See the paper for the analysis.
Logical coding
and decoding
Depth-map
comparison
Errors in low-frequency patterns corrupt high-significance bits of conventional codes and can produce large depth errors. The logical codes yield a nearly error-free depth map with the same number of input images as conventional codes.
